OKIDI RAYMOND

INTRODUCTION

My name in Okidi Raymond, resident of Agago District in Northern Uganda, completed my s.4 in the year 2014 from a school called Patombwe S.S. and later on I joined a Technical School called Gombe Community Polytechnic in Wakiso where I did my UBTEB then recently i work in roofings Uganda Limited. They Granted me the Chance to study and do my national Diploma in Electrical engineering from Kampala Polytechnic Mengo

WHY DID YOU CHOSE VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

Actually My Plan for joining technical education came when i was in s.3. After finishing s.4, i had many plans but i had same reasons why i had chosen technical education first I know after finishing two years of any course for example the electrical I did i would be having some experience and technical knowledge and use it to get a little income

HOW DID IT TAKE YOU TO GET YOUR JOB

On the 1st june 2017, i applied at a company called roofings Uganda Limited, they make building materials like suck as Iron steel bars, nails etc So after Two months on 31st August they called me for a Job Interview in roofings

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR CURRENT POSITION

With the experience from Bespak where they were making plastic bottles so in roofings the department they wanted me to work in was plastic pipes. In the production of any plastic things, there is that similarity  in how any plastic product is manufactured whether it is bottles or there are pipes. So I got that first experience from bespeak Uganda limited which was my first Job, at roofings they considered  me even though i was having a certificate only in electrical engineering thats how i manage to be shortlisted among 15 people who has applied at roofings. I started working as a machine operator as i was still studying my Advanced certificate in Electrical Engineering but it was during weekend period so what I had to do was to request roofings when exam period came in, i told them I’m going for exams and they gave me some days off and I went and did my exams. Thats how my life started changing with Only a certificate.

BENEFITS OF A SKILL BASED ACADEMIC PROGRAM

I have many colleagues who went to university and did accounting , marketing but majority are at home complaining about Jobs because they studied the wrong course, let me not say Wrong but it is hard to get jobs in such opportunities and they many who have given their applications to take to roofings but in roofings there are already workers, so the best way we can eradicate all this is through vocational education

ADVICE TO THE YOUTHS AND NATION

My Humble Advice i can give to my friends in lower classes and those still studying is the only way to succeed in life faster and easily is technical education and discard the belief that technical education is for academic failures. I was the best in my school but i left to do technical education. through technical you get skill so you won’t look for a job, Job will look for you!
