UBTEB's Executive Secretary attends UTC-Elgon's Graduation
Executive Secretary's speech at the graduation ceremony of UTC - Elgon on 2nd November 2018
The Chief Guest,
Hon. Members of Parliament present,
The Chairperson Governing Council,
Officials from Ministry of Education and Sports,
Officials from Mbale District Local Government,
The Academic Registrar,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
I am pleased on this occasion for the honor and opportunity to be part of this congregation of UTC-Elgon graduation ceremony. I bring you warm and special greetings from the Board, management and staff of UBTEB. I want to sincerely congratulate you upon this achievement.
In Uganda, there is increasing demand for formal technical and vocational education and this is a big milestone towards the attainment of the national development plan II on skills development. With the current reforms in TVET policies including competence based education and training, the country is destined for greater industrial growth derived from competent and dynamic human resources from Vocational Institutions like UTC-Elgon. I have noted that currently UTC-Elgon has a total enrolment of 1,017 candidates. This is very good and we believe that if the trend is sustained, we shall be able to achieve the national target of skilled graduates from BTVET institutions.
I am glad to note that UTC-Elgon has embraced the call for hands-on training through real life projects such as renovation of class room block, canteen, kitchen, pit latrine, windows, doors and electrical installation. This is a tremendous achievement towards skills development for job creation. We are proud of the quality of graduates from all Institutions accredited by UBTEB. We strongly appeal to all parents and students to enroll for national certificates and Diplomas programmes in only institutions accredited by UBTEB.
I am glad to inform you that UTC-Elgon has exhibited good performance by candidates in both rea life projects and final examinations. This is very good and exemplary performance. I commend the Principal and your Academic team on this commitment to excellence.
As a Board we are strongly committed to deliver quality services in a timely manner. In this regard, am glad to inform you that beginning with the May/June 2016 examinations results, the Board issued transcripts for all successful students on the day of release. Dear candidates, I hope you have picked your transcripts by now. The Board shall release certificates by end of November 2018 for all candidates who registered in 2015 and successfully completed in May/June 2017.
The Board has fully put in place Examinations management information system to enable effective and efficient operations during registration and processing of candidates biodata. I would like to take this chance to encourage all students to do UBTEB examinations that are nationally and globally recognized.
I would like to inform you that the Board is in final stages of preparation for Nov/Dec 2018 examination series; National Certificate (technical and vocational) and Uganda Community Polytechnic Certificate shall start with briefing of candidates on 16th November 2018 and end on 26th and 30th November 2018 respectively.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is on this note that I congratulate the graduands and their parents for the tireless and commendable work which has resulted into this tremendous achievement.
FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY
Onesmus Oyesigye (CPA)
